Parents

Rhyme TimeWe will aim to provide a flexible service in an integrated approach and work with all agencies to provide a service which meets the needs of children and families. Staff will take active steps to encourage parents to engage with the nursery and will put strategies in place to help overcome barriers. Parents are actively involved in supporting children’s learning.

The management team will encourage all parents, staff and children to monitor and evaluate the work of the centre.

We have a wonderful, active parents' group who meet every week and support the nursery in many ways such as fundraising, organising events, monitoring etc...

We work with parents to support the learning of the individual child by talking and sharing information on a daily basis. The learning intention sheets are sent home for parents to sign and if you wish you can be actively be involved in this learning at home. Parents days/evenings are held at regular intervals throughout the year and staff will inform you of these dates. Parents are actively involved in the assessment and recording procedure through the child’s Record of Achievement Book which contains the learning intentions and assessment information.

As we operate an open door policy, parents are welcome to visit the Centre at any time to discuss the progress their child has made at the centre.

We also run a lending library to extend learning at home. Subject areas covered are: literacy, numeracy,  sciences and our new health and wellbeing.

The Scottish Government has recently launched an online survey http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2010/11/12102944/0 as part of the Public Consultation on the future of the “School Handbook” – the information that schools provide for parents. The consultation will run until 14 March 2011. We are now planning a series of Engagement Events around the country to find out more from parents and carers about what information they need and want in the “Handbook”. Please see attached flyer (under documents) for further information.
